The Challenge

The Department of Zuénoula is facing a worrying re-emergence of skin Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs).

The lack of access to proper medical services, coupled with stigmatisation and a lack of awareness in the community, are contributing to the spread of these diseases. Moreover, a shortage of skilled personnel and poor health infrastructure are hindering the effective detection and treatment of cases.

The solution

In order to address these challenges the project focuses on several areas. Screening and medical care for people affected by skin NTDs will be carried out; this will involve a focus on awareness-raising and communication in the community to reduce stigmatisation and improve access to medical care.

In addition, efforts will be made to improve the health infrastructure, including the rehabilitation of water and sanitation systems, and biomedical waste will be managed appropriately.

Impact

A significant impact on the quality of life of people affected by skin NTDs in the Department of Zuénoula is expected.

Early detection and proper treatment will reduce the incidence rates and impact of these diseases in the community. Awareness-raising and a reduction in stigmatisation will improve access to health care and promote social inclusion.

Similarly, an improved health infrastructure will benefit the entire community by providing a healthier and safer environment. Taken together, these actions will contribute to improving the health and wellbeing of the population concerned.
